DogNapped is an independent Irish documentary about the rise of dog theft and the families left picking up the pieces. We’ve already filmed with three families and campaigner Lisa O’Connor. I’m looking to raise €5,000 to finish the film and present their stories honestly and clearly to audiences in Ireland and beyond. What is DogNapped?
Imagine coming home and the house is exactly as you left it… except the dog bed is empty. No note. No explanation. Just silence. That’s the reality for a growing number of people across Ireland. Except some of these pets are taken when the owners back is turned, for a second. DogNapped is a documentary looking at the rising issue of dog theft here in Ireland and the impact it has on the owners and their families. We’ve interviewed three families whose pets were taken over the last few years. Some are still searching. One got their dog back, but not without damage. Alongside those stories, we’ve spoken with Lisa O’Connor, who is actively campaigning for stronger pet theft laws. Through her, the film shows what can happen when people refuse to just “accept it” and push for real change. This isn’t a true-crime thriller. It’s a human story about grief, obsession, community and the way one missing dog can tear a hole right through a family.
